Where the water goes
Every roof, driveway and paved area you add to a site reduces the ground available to soak up rain. That water has to be collected and taken to a legal point of discharge rather than left to find its own way.
We design stormwater solutions for small-scale developments, taking into account site levels, the point of discharge and the requirements of the relevant council. Those requirements vary a fair bit across Hunter local government areas.
What council will want to know
Requirements differ between Maitland, Newcastle, Port Stephens, Cessnock and the surrounding LGAs, but the questions are consistent. Where is the legal point of discharge? Is on-site detention required to hold back peak flows? How much impervious area is being added?
Answering those on paper before you lodge is far cheaper than answering them after a refusal.
